The Harvard-Kent Partnership And Scholarship
The Harvard-Kent Partnership helps make the dream of college a reality for children at Charlestown’s Harvard-Kent elementary school, a remarkable urban public school. Every year we award college incentive scholarships to highly motivated young students. Recipients and their families join a special club that provides educational enrichment and helps them model the qualities of aspirations and achievement for the entire school. When they graduate from Harvard-Kent, they join an older scholars club that helps guide their choices in middle school, high school, and as they look toward college.
to the 2015 Harvard-Kent Leadership Partnership Scholars!
First, we are thrilled to welcome Jeremy Anziani, Wendy Ruan, Junqiang Mai, Gift Udeh, Brooklynn Cartagena and Anthony Avalos to the Scholarship Group. Moreover, we are happy to award the first Menino Leadership Scholarship award to Rihanna Kavanaugh. All of these young scholars have exhibited maturity, diligence and leadership skills that have been recognized by their teachers and other adults in their lives.
On May 8th, we formally recognized them and were honored to have Mayor Marty Walsh, Superintendent John McDonough, MTA Leader Richard Stutman, and Senators Sal DiDominico and Dan Ryan on hand to help us congratulate these children and reward their accomplishments. We were also honored to have Angela Menino there for the awarding of the first ever Thomas M. Menino Leadership award at the Harvard-Kent. And as a special plus, the Harvard-Kent Chorus provided entertainment. Congratulations to all the kids!
Finally, it was bittersweet to be sending some of our first scholars off to college. We are proud of their accomplishments and look forward to seeing what amazing things they do in the coming years. Congratulations to Leslie Centeno, McKensie Dollosa, Libin Huang, Sophia Liu, Joseph Medrano and Edward Xiong.
